John has been participating in the Senior Program at Henderson Settlement
for several years. He lives alone....and is picked up on Monday, Wednesday,
and Friday for activities at the Senior Center. The staff of the Senior
Center has helped him celebrate birthdays as well as comforted him in times
of sorrow. John turned to the staff to help him through the grieving
process when his wife died.
John had to have bypass surgery a couple of years ago and the Senior Center
was present for him. He comes faithfully to participate in activities, even
though he is often the only man present. His humor and his walking around
campus, though with a limp, keep him special in everyone's mind.
The support John receives from the fellowship and devotional times at the
Senior Center help keep him focused on the fact that he still has purpose in
his life. His Christian spirit reminds everyone of the importance of
knowing God's love in Jesus Christ in one's heart.
