Crafter Profiles
Melissa Lambdin was born
in a local hospital and lived in the Frakes community
until she got married
at 19 and moved to North Carolina. Melissa
returned to this area a year later because she missed Kentucky and the
mountains. Volunteering at school and being a homemaker kept her very
busy for several years. In 2004, Melissa started a business
called ‘Shady Mountain Candles and Soap.’ Soy candles, air
fresheners,
soap, scented sachet bags and parasoy melts are the products she markets
through the Craft Shop. Her website is www.shadymountaincandlesandsoap.com.
Harry
Jennings was born in Virginia and lived there until his family moved to
Whitley County, KY when he was five. After visiting the Log House Craft
Shop and viewing the woo d carvings at age sixteen, he developed an
interest in wood carving that later became his hobby. His carvings have
achieved some prominence and are displayed (and sold) in the Craft Shop
at Henderson Settlement and the Kentucky Arts & Crafts Center in Berea,
KY as well as in other venues. Harry was employed by Henderson
Settlement in 1999 and has been the Work Camp Project Manager for the
past four years. Prior to becoming Project Manager, Harry assisted work
teams and the previous manager part-time.
